Embracer Director General did not refute the possibility of closing Free Radical Design

Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors did not refute the report that Timesplitters Free Radical Design is waiting for closing.

Yesterday, Wingefors gave an interview on the air of the financial YouTube channel Direkt Studios on Switch, during which the audience asked him questions in the chat.

One of the spectators, the artist Nordlight Marseille Markov, asked Wingefors: "What will happen to Free Radical Design and TimesPlitters?".

In general, I can say that in the world there are many situations at workplaces that may lead to restructuring. Then it is necessary to negotiate with the trade union or take other legal measures to complete something. This discussion cannot be. This is my answer.

Last week, the VGK reported that Free Radical is under threat of closing the owner of Embracer Group only two years after its foundation.

According to sources close to Free Radical Design, employees of the studio located in Nottingham (Great Britain) were notified of the possibility of closing it.

In accordance with the requirements of the British labor legislation, the Plaion, the Embracer unit managing Free Radical, is obliged to consult with employees for at least 30 days before dismissal, including the possibility of avoiding it.

Thus, depending on when the employees were informed, there is a possibility that the studio can remain open if Embracer receives interest from third parties interested in its acquisition.

The reduction of jobs in the gaming industry in 2023 was widespread. The companies that have taken dismissal this year include Xbox Game Studios, Epic Games, Sony Interactive Entertainment, CD Projekt, Unity, Riot Games, Blizzard, Crystal Dynamics, Bioware, Strikeing Distance, TEE AM17, Frontier Development and Telltale Games.
